A Curly Hair Product that ACTUALLY Works!

Guys! I am so excited about this blog post because even though it’s taken me all of my life, I finally found a curly hair product that works! Now, if you’ve never had curly hair, you won’t understand the excitement and emotion I’m feeling! But for my curly hair friends out there, I’m sure you feel my excitement! Before I tell you about the product, let me briefly share my hair journey.

The Journey

Growing up I had wavy hair. Then my hair drastically changed when I got pregnant with my son. My chocolate brown hair turned into a reddish, lighter brown, and my waves turned curly. You can imagine how lost I was. I didn’t know how to style it. If I blowdried it, I looked like Diana Ross. If I used curly hair product, it was either frizzy or had that weird, stiff crackly feel. So I bought a Chi straightener and kept it straight for almost 10 years until I discovered LUS Brands Love Ur Curls from a Facebook ad.

Something about the ad impressed me and stopped my mindless scrolling. I immediately went to their website and purchased a trial of their curly hair set that includes the shampoo, conditioner, and all-in-one. They have wavy and kinky, too. I was skeptical because I had tried so many products before only to have the same frizz or crackle problem as before.

The product

Normally when I straighten my hair, I don’t have to wash it for days. I don’t have oily hair so that works perfect for me. But by the time I do wash it, it needs it! And I usually have to wash it twice. I grabbed the shampoo (after carefully watching how-to videos) and massage it into my hair. OMG! This felt different!

It thoroughly cleaned my hair with just one wash, and it was squeaky clean almost like it clarified it. I then applied the conditioner, and at first I thought it wouldn’t do much. It seemed thin, but I left it in the full two minutes like it said, and when I rinsed it, my hair felt silky soft.

I got out of the shower, applied lotion, and my face products with my hair in a towel. When I got ready to apply the all-in-one product, I had to rewet my hair because it has to be super wet (like dripping). I sectioned off my hair and applied the product. I then soaked up some of the excess water with a microfiber towel like they suggested and then used the towel to crimp my hair. I then let it air dry. After it was dry, I ran my fingers through it and was shocked! No frizz. No crinkly. Just soft, beautiful curls!

Now it did take a couple of times to figure out exactly how to get the curls to lay the way I wanted, but I was impressed!

Tips and Tricks I learned

Since then I’ve used the product several times. I’ll probably try the wavy next because I’m curious how that will do in my hair since I’m not super curly, but here are some things I’ve learned.

  1. It doesn’t have to be as wet as they say. Having dripping wet hair air dry takes forever! My hair is pretty wet when I apply the product but not dripping, and it works just fine. I will say that I had slight frizz, but not enough to bother me at all.

  2. Air dry is best. Sometimes, I’m in a hurry and air drying takes a while, so I’ll use a diffuser. Diffusing makes it a bit fluffy and slightly frizzy. If at all possible, I air dry.

  3. I scrunch upside down. When I’m getting the excess water out and scrunching, I do it upside down and then fling my head back. This gets my hair in the perfect drying “position.” I tweak a few areas on the side. My curls dry so pretty.

  4. It needs to be fully dry! I learned this last week. I was in a hurry and even though I diffused some, I didn’t enough. When I ran my fingers through my hair (which I do upside down), it looked fine at first but as it continued to dry, it frizzed more than I like.

In summary

I might try more products out there because they seem to be getting better, but for now LUS Brands Love Ur Curls is the product I’m using! And it’s so nice to have options. I still straighten it, but if I’m in a curly mode, I’ll go a la naturale!
